The Shadow of the Tomb Raider Review
By Niki Wyre

Title: Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Publisher: Square Enix
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows
Type of game: Action / Adventure / Free Roam
Difficulty: Casual to Intermediate (Difficulty changes as you level up)
# of Players: 1 (There is no multiplayer.)
Rating: (M)ature
Replay value:  Good. If you are a completionist, you will replay for trophies / achievements on different levels. You will pick up on things you missed before.
Game navigation: Beginners to series will have slight learning curve but tutorials will help in no time.

(Note: This past week I have really enjoyed getting to know the new story addition to the Lara Croft’s Tomb Raider saga. I second guessed purchasing it launch day due to some bad reviews, but then I actually read the reviews and their history. Their breaking points for the most part were not gameplay or story related. They often nitpicked and were laughable. So here is my own review.)

Have you enjoyed Lara’s journey so far in the Tomb Raider saga? Do you love to search for artifacts, jump to new heights, solve puzzles, and help innocent people along the way? Then don’t miss out on the newest addition to the reboot trilogy, the Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Things are different in this game. You will find a darker mood and Lara as she grapples with the outcomes of her choices made in the beginning. You will travel back to be a child Lara in her family estate, which I adored. You will learn more about her mental thought processes, her memories and backstory. Some cut scenes brought me close to tears. It is emotionally evoking.

Lara fights her way across the land, seeing such sights at hidden temples, underground world, a weathered shipwreck, hidden paradise, burial chambers and more. They are not to be missed out on and her often companion / communicator Jonah is a gem.

My only problem encountered in all my hours put in so far could of been fixed up front if I had this sage advice: USE MULTIPLE SAVES. By this I mean, change your save slot occasionally in case of a glitch. Why? I had a glitch about 5 or 6 hours of gameplay in and was stuck in a cave tomb. It autosaved right before the action I did, which did not trigger a door opening. Done. I had to start all over. So please take this advice to heart. I got to experience 4 plane crashes in one morning thanks to issue. What fun.

Will you find all the campsites, journals, artifacts, survival caches, and hidden objects? Will you help the people and do all the side quests before the ending? Will you solve all the puzzles and upgrade all your gear? Crafting is a fun aspect to gaming for me, so I rather enjoyed collecting things to make new stat raising items for Lara.

As a completionist myself, I won’t give up until I reach 100 percent on my game, then I will be heading back for a full replay. I binge played this game for long periods and still have so much more to do. I honestly recommend this title. Now off to raid more tombs! 😉

Did you like this game? Drop me a comment below and let me know. Here is the official trailer for those that want to know more:

You can find more about this title for purchase on Amazon for PS4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.

Until next time,

<3 Niki Wyre

I didn’t play (I’m not good at jumping) but I watched my husband. Loved it! Your review is spot on. I think he’s replayed it twice.

Awesome and thank you so much. I am still working on making it 100 percent. It may take awhile longer as I took a break with Strange Brigade. 🙂
