Netflix Binge Worthy: Anne With An “E”
by Niki Wyre
As soon as I saw the 2nd season was available on Netflix for “Anne with An ‘E'”, the binge was on. By the time I went to bed that night I had 2 episodes left for the following day, only because my fiance came to bed and I had to switch to our shows. The suspense was killing me though. Seriously. Binge watching is an Olympic sport for me. 😉 Those episodes were quickly digested upon awakening the next morning and did not disappoint as my friends on social media already know.
For those that haven’t given this series a try yet, why not? I understand being loyal to our memories of previous interpretations, which ever one you prefer. I was introduced to the Anne of Green Gables series by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery by the film adaption from 1985 starring Megan Follows as Anne. (Shout out to my very awesome 7th grade English teacher for this lifetime love she gave me by playing the entire movie series for our class!) I bonded to Anne and Megan in that role, like no other. This left some really big shoes to fill for Amybeth McNulty but I recommend, like all adaptions, that you watch it like a new piece of work, independently at first without comparisons.
I think it was around the end of the 2nd episode I realized I was in love with Amybeth’s Anne and she was more fitting for Anne than Megan was to the book’s true character. Something the old me would of thought was blasphemy but totally true. Her passion, outlook, view, scope and awkwardness is exactly right.
If you are already converted past season one and are ready for the new season, be prepared! This is going to be an emotional roller coaster. Not a joke. Tissues recommended. Be prepared to binge because you won’t be able to stop. You are going to want to know what happens next. It is going to be hard to go to sleep without knowing what happens to your kindred spirits. They will be facing many issues with parallels in what is going on today which found completely relevant.
I found myself: smiling, crying, laughing, gasping, holding my breath, sitting on the edge of the bed, pausing to think, and talking to my friends on social media about it.
What will “Anne with An ‘E'” do to you?
Drop me a line and let me know how you liked it and what you thought of the character development. I would love to hear how you felt about this literary adaptation.
Until next time.
