How I Know My Daith Piercings Are Definitely Working…
by Niki Wyre
I woke up today to another whopper of a storm, but not a twinge of a migraine in sight. Crazy considering it there has been a storm almost every single day for weeks now. Pretty bad ones too. Ahh.. the good old sunshine state.
On July 18th, I got the daith piercings done on both ears. Picture below is from the day I got done. See my awesome golden snitch earrings and my hard to hide pink hair.
This was a very impromptu decision on something that I have debating doing for a long time due to so many friends reporting that it helped them with their migraines in the past. Since I have been blessed with horrible migraines and headaches through genetics, it’s been a struggle, but I have put off the piercing due to infection risks on my treatments for Autoimmune Arthritis. When my rheumatologist prescribed a new treatment that I would go through another wait process for on the that, I knew I had my window off meds, so we just wheeled in to Atomic Tattoos at the Mall and did it. 🙂 (Big thank you to @DannyDice456 who is super nice and helpful.)
The healing process has been hard so far but… since then I have not taken one single Imitrex or Excedrin Migraine pill or slapped on a Be Kool migraine patch nor hidden in the dark for blinding migraine pain. I haven’t experienced any flashing light kaleidoscope light shows from ocular migraines. I have on a few occasions had some intense pressure or sound sensitivity but that is when I knew I was due for that day’s 2 to 3 times a day cleaning and grabbed Murphy as he helps me out. Once cleaned and earring moved a bit there is instant relief. What do I use for cleaning? H2Ocean. This was recommended by my piercer Danny and from my research is one of the best for preventing those icky bumps, infections and more than you can get with cartilage piercings like daith. My first can I purchased at Atomic Tattoo, but you can also buy H2Ocean on Amazon here.
I do recommend doing one side at a time and not both, especially if you have fibromyalgia or autoimmune conditions that might flare up. The piercing itself did not hurt but I hurt something awful days 2-9. It was hard to find a position to sleep in when you are a side sleeper. (Bad thinking ahead Niki.)
I was afraid to type out my good fortune about the migraines and jinx myself but so far so good. I also didn’t want to brag with loved ones and friends suffering so with this weather but wanted to share. ( Love out to those battling migraines in this weather. Thinking of you )
Until next time.
